Dear Lisa,
We just purchased a new house and would rather have money instead of a wedding gift. Is there a proper way to include this on our invitations?

ANSWER: Unfortunately, there really is no proper way to tell guest to give money. In fact, there's no way to even mention gifts of any kind tactfully. An invitation to wedding does not require a gift. Most people who want to know what to purchase the bride or groom will simply call around - to the wedding couple, friends/family, the wedding party - and find out where the couple is registered. It's at that time when you can politely respond, "They really don't need anything for their home. However, they did just purchase their new home, so I am sure they would love a monetary gift."
